KeySHA is a NFT platform focused on the creation, distribution and elevation of Black Art within the nascent landscape of web3. In this growing ecosystem, it is vital to foster the education of Black creatives on how to design and monetize the NFT assets they produce.
As we embark on this new paradigm, we ought to ensure creatives are able to maintain ownership and steer clear of outdated business models that extracted away the value artists and their fans generate for brands.
The fact of the matter is that crypto, art, and art in the crypto space all hinge on community for growth. Speaking frankly, all three previously mentioned spaces are predominantly white. While a large amount of the digital art we traditionally encounter online (social media) is drawn from Black culture, we worry the current communities that have sprung up around NFTs will drown out Black voices, discouraging the growth of creatives who have the opportunity to make an impact. If we aren’t inviting Black creatives into the next iteration of the art world, we’re just rebuilding broken systems.
With KeySHA our goal is to create a platform where Black art has space to be incubated and thrive as the use-cases and ecosystem of NFTs expand. It doesn’t take much effort to find examples of Black creatives whose work has been copied, appropriated or outright stolen by people and platforms due to their larger audiences. Besides examples of being taken advantage of, the other issue in the NFT space were attempting to address is the lack of resources and information available to Black creatives.
